Self-Acceptance - Day 3
When we’re going through times of change and transformation, we can get confused.
We knew who we were, but we don’t know who we’re becoming. We can buy into being socially or politically correct. We think if we want to fit in with the crowd, we can’t be ourselves. It hurts when others reject or judge us. It hurts more when we reject ourselves. Or we can go the other way and randomly rebel.Sometimes self-acceptance hurts. Not liking our behaviors is important for change. But it’s hard to change what we do until we accept first that we’re doing it.It’s not difficult to be who we are. That comes naturally. The challenge comes when we think we should be something else.
Challenge: Pay attention to your self-talk. Beware of put-downs like “Why are you feeling that way?” “Can’t you do better than that?” “If people really knew you, they wouldn’t give you the time of day.”The biggest challenge to accepting ourselves isn’t what other people tell us. It’s the things we tell ourselves.
